Is Permanent Jewelry Safe for Sensitive Skin?

“Will this irritate my skin?” is one of the most common questions we get before a first appointment — and it's a fair one. Here's what actually matters if you have sensitive skin or a history of metal allergies.

It starts with the metal

At I Shine Forever, we weld with solid gold, rose and yellow gold vermeil and gold-filled, sterling silver, and stainless steel. These are quality metals that suit most skin types, including many people with sensitive skin, because they contain little to no nickel — the metal most commonly responsible for jewelry-related skin reactions.

What to tell us before your appointment

If you have a known history of metal allergies or reactions to jewelry, let us know before we weld. We can help you choose the metal that's the best fit for you, whether that's solid gold, sterling silver, or another option. If you're unsure, it never hurts to check with your physician or dermatologist first.

The welding process itself is skin-safe

A common misconception is that the weld touches your skin — it doesn't. Our precision welder creates a quick, painless spark that only touches the metal ends of the chain, with a protective barrier keeping the heat and spark away from you entirely.

Signs to watch for after your appointment

Most clients wear their piece with zero issues, often for years. If you ever notice redness, itching, or irritation right at the jewelry, it's worth switching metals — come back and we'll help you find one that works better for your skin.
